Traditional PBX is what we have been all been using for the past twenty years or more.  Calls are carried over standard BT phone lines and can be transferred within the premises.  Enhancements such as Direct Dialling In and voicemail have become standard over the past few years as the cost has fallen.  For many businesses the traditional PBX will still be the optimum solution.  Many manufacturers now have an upgrade available so fancy things like VoIP can be implemented later if required which means that investment is protected.
